Description |
Scenes from Mossborough Hall Farm in Rainford, St. Helens. The film begins with farm workers talking a little for the camera before they cut wood with a chainsaw. We then see them at a staff party, they drink beer and are asked to talk about how they will spend Christmas for the camera. The workers are British, Tunisian and Spanish. We see farming scenes from 24 April 1977. Farm workers put weed killer on the fields of cauliflower and cabbage and another field is prepared for planting celery. We see views of Rainford beyond the fields. There is an interview with Jack who is about to retire after more than 30 years working on the farm. We later see his retirement party, which he shares with Albert who is also retiring. People sit around drinking and talking. There is dancing to folk and contemporary music and the guests are asked to talk for the camera. We also see a sheep being slaughtered by traditional methods of slaughter demonstrated by Tunisian farm workers, who then butcher the carcass. |
