Description

A retrospective look at the life and work of L. S. Lowry, presented for Granada Television by Bob Greaves. Opens with views of Mottram in Longdendale and Lowry working at his easel, mixed with interviews and voice over. Lowry is shown around his permanent exhibit at Salford Art Gallery and discusses the paintings there with Greaves. There is a montage of derelict mills and new construction sites, as Lowry reflects on the passing of the Cotton industry and how the region's industrial landscape has changed with the passing of time. Closes with extracts from an earlier Granada production 'This England : Mr Lowry', which shows him wandering around Piccadilly Gardens and empathising with the vagrants gathered there.
