Description

This film documents the closing of the old school and the construction and opening of the new school, St. Michael's Church School, in Grimsargh. The opening title tells us that work began on the new school on 25th September 1967 and we see views of the building site. We also see views of the old school constructed in 1809. The film records the last time the students will see a train pass by their school, on November 3rd 1967. The students watch the freight train as it passes, and there are close up shots of the train as it hooks up to trucks filled with coal in the sidings. There are scenes from a school football match that took place in Spring 1968. We see inside the new school, and then we see the students leaving the old school for the last time. The new school opened on St Michael's Day (29th September) 1968. We see views of St. Michael's church in Grimsargh and then a parade which includes members of the choir and clergymen walking to the church. A ceremony lead by the clergymen takes place outside the school and then it is officially open and everybody is allowed to go in. The film ends with scenes of children playing in the new school playground.
