Description |
Film showing the work of a tannery in Silsden, Yorkshire. After shots of the tannery's village setting, hides are shown being delivered and cut into 'butts'. The butts are washed in fresh water, then placed in lime pits. After this process, the butts are scudded (hair is scraped off) and fleshed (fat is removed) by a skilled 'beamsman' before being sent to the tanning pits. |
