Description

Promotional film for Southport tourism department. The film opens on the early hours in Southport, the streets are empty as the milk man does his rounds. Later it's much different as people of all ages make their way to Southport to either go shopping, to the fairground hoopla stalls piers or a ride on the promenade tram. At the Sea Bathing Lake, people enjoy the outdoor swimming bath. The press arrive to see comedian Les Dawson take part in a charity cricket match. The film then visits Happiland, a fun fair in Southport where visitors enjoy a range of rides and games. The family then head to the beach where they build sandcastles together and the children go for a pony ride. At the botanic gardens, an elderly couple walk around admiring the different flowers. The family seen earlier also visit the Lakeside Miniature Railway followed by a trip to the Southport Model Railway Village. The family then head back to their hotel where they have some food. The young teenagers get some hot dogs at the fairground while the slightly older couple go to Berni Inns for fish and chips. On the beach crowds gather to watch a beauty competition for children. The family visit Southport zoo and aquarium where they see a variety of animals. Some of the younger people go on a plane ride over Southport. The film then cuts to Victoria Park where the annual flower show takes place. Crowds gather to watch the show jumping event. At night, people go see a live band and dance. Others visit the Dandy Club and have some drinks. The family attend a live entertainment show including a comedy performance by Les Dawson.
