Compilation of extracts from three of Sam Hanna's craft films. In 'The Besom Maker', Dick Eastwood makes a 'besom' (broom) outside his cottage in Grassington, Yorkshire, using traditional tools and materials. 'The Village Blacksmith' shows John Coward and his assistants producing and fitting an iron tyre to a wooden cart wheel in the village of Soutergate, Cumbria. Finally, 'The Slate Quarry' follows the process of producing slate roofing tiles, from extraction at Burlington Quarry, near Kirkby-in-Furness, to roofing a new house. |
