Description

A look at various mayoral events in Stretford. Reel 1 includes - shots of the mayor's residence - the family in the garden; mayoral church ceremony and parade of civic dignitaries; meetings with George Formby and Frank Swift; attending a women's football match (featuring Dick Kerr Ladies) and a baseball match; a civic luncheon; wreath laying ceremony; a reception at Stretford Town Hall for Manchester United after their 1948 cup win - shots of the team and trophies; a visit by Field Marshall Montgomery; rose queen celebrations and crowning ceremony; a trade exhibition - Kelloggs and Metrovicks stands seen. Reel 2 - Rose Queen pageant; the family at the funfair; meeting Dick Kerr Ladies again; Mayor's Sunday - the mayor and civic dignitaries on the steps of the Town Hall; procession of uniformed organisations; a service in Stretford Parish Church; processions to celebrate Stretford Pageant and the borough's silver jubilee.
