Description |
Event at the 5th Anniversary Gala of the 1984/5 Miners' Strike at Manchester Town Hall on 4th March 1989 with the 'Women in Struggle' workshop in one of the Committee Rooms. Anne Scargill talks about how things have changed for many women - from having been slaves to the home to building understanding about women's oppression. She talks about National Women Against Pit Closures and how much an organisation like that is needed more than ever now and how the strike politicised a lot of women. Amongst contributions from the floor is the difficulty of sustaining struggle after the battle is over and there's a discussion about how to oppose pit closures and the situation of women working in mining industry - canteen and clerical workers. |
