Description |
Filmed at Walmsley's Atlas Forge in Bolton, and Barnshaw Smithy in Mobberley, this is a record of the manufacture of puddle, or wrought, iron, a dwindling industry even back in 1973. The film looks at the history of iron production, with some use of stills and diagrams, and the metal’s applications in industry and engineering, before scenes shot in the heat and smoke of the forge, and in the smithy, where a blacksmith is shoeing a horse. |
