Description |
An exhaustive and informative film on the experimental electric train line that linked Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham. After a history of the various stages of the construction of the line we see the archive film of the Rev. Robert Jackson [see NWFA7959]. This film takes us on a journey from Morecambe to Lancaster, back to Morecambe then onto Heysham before returning to Morecambe with views taken from the cab of the train. It also includes shots of the trains filmed from the sidings and bridges as well as a glimpse of the drivers. In 1996, thirty years after the line was closed, Robert Jackson and former train driver and engineer Ernie Whitehouse retrace the line. Using the archive and contemporary films side by side we see the the many changes that have happened to the area since closure. The film ends with an interview with Ernie Whitehead and the Rev. Robert Jackson who shows us the railway artefacts he has collected. |
