Description

A look at life and work on a colonial tea plantation in Sri Lanka. A British woman and her daughter receive visitors for afternoon tea on the lawn, with a servant in attendance. On the plantation itself, the workers are filmed during different stages of tea production, the men clearing more land for planting, and the women picking the tea leaves. Crops are sprayed with pesticide, and picked leaves are sorted, weighed and dispatched by lorry. The workers then queue to receive their wages in cash and there are scenes at the local market, where foodstuffs and textile items are for sale.
