Description

The 1937 Grand National horse race at Aintree in Liverpool. We see the entire four and a half mile race of thirty riders with horses jumping and falling at various fences. The event is attended by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth who watch the winner 'Royal Mail'.
The original nitrate reel is the actual reel viewed by the King and Queen when they stayed with Lord Derby overnight at Knowsley on the day of the Grand National. The film was then sealed into a commemorative can - opened by NWFA 77 years later.
