Description |
The Lowry is an arts complex of galleries and a theatre, built at Salford Quays on a site which used to be part of the docks. It opened in 2000 and has since become a popular venue attracting national and international performers and exhibitions. The centre is named after the artist L.S. Lowry, whose paintings of industrial northern landscapes, and particularly the people who live in them, make his work immediately recognisable. A selection of Lowry’s work is on permanent display in the building. In this short documentary made in 2002, Lindsay Brooks, Curator of Collections at the Lowry, talks about the painting ‘Head of a Man (with red eyes)’ painted by the artist in 1938. She also talks about L.S. Lowry’s life and work, and visitors to the gallery give their response to the picture. |
