Description |
This film takes place in St Andrew's House, a residential home for people with disabilities. We see scenes from a 21st birthday party for one of the residents, Jennie. She is surrounded by friends, relatives and other residents of the home. She is given cards and presents, which include clothes and soft toys. People sit around and talk, Jennie cuts the cake and a friend called David, also a resident in the home, recites a poem he has written in honour of Jennie's birthday. We then see some of the staff on their break. They drink coffee, smoke cigarettes and read magazines. They discuss the celebrities in the magazines including Craig McLachlan and Jason Donovan. Back at the party two of the carers pick up residents who are unable to stand unassisted and dance with them to music. The film ends with a recorded message to Jennie from two of her relatives. Two women in their living room tell Jennie that they are back home from the party and tell her how much they have enjoyed themselves. One of the ladies (who refers to herself as Jennifer Spencer) is not used to using a camcorder and films various things in the living room while the other lady gives instructions, this is all done in a fun way for Jennie's benefit. |
