Description

The ninth session of a 10 week Celebration of African Culture, held at WFA Media and Cultural Centre in Manchester between February and May 1983. Side of stage coverage of the final 11 minutes of the cultural performance on Saturday evening by the London-based band 'Steel and Skin'. Followed by footage of the music workshop in the tenth session, and the final session of the celebration on 1 May 1983. Starts with Abina Braithwaite singing with a backing band from Abasindi. After approximately 10 minutes, 'Steel and Skin' begin their workshop. They explain and demonstrate how they put their music together from pure percussion to African dance music. The audience are welcomed to participate and they all perform together. Includes dancing with Bernie Butcher, Paulette Cluney, Diane and Frankie from Abasindi - including a Ghanaian dance where girls dance in order for bachelors to chose their partners.
