Description

Families make their way to St Andrews Parish church in Cleveleys for the mothering Sunday service. In May, members of the Ladies Guild wait for the coach for their trip to Temple Newsam House. This year the deanery festival was held at St Pauls church, North Shore. Members of the Mothers Union parade their banners from the school room to the church. In May, members and friends of the Men's Fellowship board which would take them to the Lake District. Outside the church, volunteers collect donations for Christian Aid Week. Scenes from the Thornton-Cleveleys Gala includes a procession led the mounted police and the Scottish pipe band and St Andrews Sunday school Queen. In the next scene we see various flower displays in the church for the flower festival. The refreshment committee and helpers prepared and served snacks and meals in the church hall. To commemorate the Sunday school anniversary, a walk around the parish was held before the afternoon church service. St. Andrews Sunday school proudly paraded their new banner. A baptism was also held during the service. Later we seen the crowning of the new Sunday school Queen Karen by Mrs Gladys Thomas (the commentator of this film). At Blackpool North train station, members of the Cleveleys cubs prepare to board a train for their Jubilee outing to York. In the next scene friends and family are seen arriving at Thornton parish church for the wedding of Jenny Shoreman and Charles Balshaw. The bride and groom exit the church and have photographs taken. In the next scene members of St Andrews Parish church travel to St Helens Church in Churchtown to visit their country market. Back home in Cleveleys, the Battle of Britain Sunday procession takes place. Members of the local branch of the Royal Air Force association and the British Legion lead the procession followed by service cadets, scouts and girl guides. That same day was also Missionary Sunday, the preacher was joined by two student nurses from Uganda who were at the time training at a Kendal hospital. The film jumps to September, where the Sunday school children bring gifts to the church for the harvest festival.
