Description

Churchgoers leave St Andrews parish church after a Remembrance Sunday service. A procession then makes its way through Cleveleys followed by a service at Thornton-Cleveleys war memorial. On Thinking Day, a presentation was made to 'Brown Owl' Miss Lynn Nelson for gaining the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold badge. On Mothering Sunday, mothers and children as well as the Sunday school Queen arrive at St Andrews church for the family service. Members of the Mothers Union and of the Sunday School proudly show off their banners outside the church. The church youth leader, Mr. Fairbrother and his helpers prepare a cooked breakfast for the clergy and youth of the church after the Easter Sunday morning service. This year the Ladies Guild annual trip was to be a mystery. They visited Scorton and went for a meal at The Priory restaurant. In the next scene we see an evening trip to Chingle Hall, which was organised by the Mothers Union. In the next scene, members of the Deanery can be seen arriving in Blackburn for a visit to the cathedral. In May, members of St Andrews church and other local churches work together to raise money for Christian Aid Week. This year the Mothers Union Deanery Festival was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church South Shore. All members of the deanery parade their banners outside the church. Members of St Andres Church travel to Downham to join in the community hymn singing on the village green, which was led by Reverend Eric Chard. Back home in the church hall, members of the Music and Movement group get together for some dancing. At the 1979 Thornton-Cleveleys Gala, a procession takes place which includes marching bands, people in fancy dress and the Queens procession. In the next scene we see the first meeting of the newly formed Toddlers club which takes place in the school hall. At the scouts open night a farewell gift was presented to Mr and Mrs Tony Winfield for their work in the scouts. The evening also allowed the cubs and scouts to display what they have learnt in scouts such as pioneering and first aid. In July, the Sunday school festival was held at St Andrews Church as well as the baptism of four babies. That afternoon they had their usual walk around the parish led by the Bispham Parish Church Cadet band. Later in July, the Thornton-Cleveleys council of churches organised an evening trip to Liverpool Cathedral. Over 200 people from the Thornton-Cleveleys area were taken on the conducted tour. On the 14th of July, after the crowning of the new Sunday school Queen Gillian Lever, a small procession takes place in the church's car park. In August, members of St Andrews Parish church travelled to St Helens Church in Churchtown to visit the country market. In late August, members of the Mothers Union travel to the Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hambleton for the flower festival. In late September, children of the Sunday school can be seen heading to church with their gifts for the harvest festival. We see the beautiful flower arrangements inside the church.
