Description |
A return to archaeological excavations begun the previous year at the site of Royton Hall, Oldham. Begnning with a brief look at Royton market and the town centre, we hear from Fr. David Booth of St Paul’s Church, while Adam Thompson from Manchester University Archaeological Unit talks about the findings so far. On the site, local schoolchildren and adult volunteers are busy digging, unearthing fragments for members of the archaeological team to examine. Two of the children talk about what they have learned, and a couple of adults discuss their reasons for becoming involved. The schoolchildren go on a history walk around the town centre, there is a brief segment of broadcast footage from Channel M with a report on the dig, and members of the public visit the site before it is re-covered for safety and to preserve the remaining structures. |
