Description

Film documenting many of the events that took place during the Preston Guild of 1952. Views of the many decorated streets in the town are followed by the Mayor's proclamation and the arrival of the Preston Harriers running club with the Guild Emblem. A veteran car rally passes through the streets, and there are scenes from all of the Guild processions including the Church of England, Roman Catholic and Trades processions. A foundation stone is laid at Preston Royal Infirmary, and there are scenes from the Royal Lancashire Show, a football match between Preston North End and the Swiss team Servette, and the Schools Guild Festival in Avenham Park in which 6000 local children participated. The film ends with the Ceremony of Adoption of the Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) by the people of Preston, and a thanksgiving service at the Parish Church.

[The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund.]
