Description

The film begins with information regarding an accident that happened early one morning in August 1955. It explains how a Bedford lorry coming from Knutsford, swung around a corner but the swing bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal was open. The lorry's brakes were also faulty and ended up crashing into the canal, fortunately the driver survived the crash. Crowds gather to watch as a diver emerges from the water. Men can be seen fixing the hawsers on the lorry and a floating crane hoists the vehicle out of the water. On May 6th 1958, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother visited Warrington. Crowds gather on the lawns of Warrington Town Hall to catch a glimpse of the Queen Mother. After arriving in a royal car she is greeted by local dignitaries, she signs a visitors book and is presented with flowers. The Queen Mother waves to the crowds before departing.
