Description |
80-year-old Charlie Airey demonstrates the dying craft of making an oak spelk basket at his backyard workshop in Storth, Westmoreland. Mr Airey is seen clearing and chopping wood in a coppice before the film cuts to his home workshop. Using a variety of traditional tools and skills honed through 50 years of experience, he splits pieces of softened oak into strips, creates a basket rim from a piece of hazel, and weaves the strips together to make an oak spelk basket. |
