Description |
A huge protest march in Manchester in support of the striking miners reaches the top of Oxford Road and turns into St Peter’s Square as it winds its way through the city centre. Some of the marchers give their opinions on the protest, criticising the response of the wider trade union movement and leadership. Others detail the different ways their own union or group has provided support for the strikers. The film ends with a crowd outside the Free Trade Hall, waiting to enter, followed by scenes inside as the stage is set up for the speakers. Labour MP Tony Benn is briefly seen on his way to address a nearby rally, arranged for the hundreds of people unable to access the already full Hall. |
