The film begins with shots of steam trains moving through industrial landscapes, and going through Widnes Central Station. There are then construction scenes of what appears to be a new motorway. We also see an old bridge being demolished. We see various steam trains in different locations, including Dinting and Huddersfield. There are shots of the trains steaming along the tracks, and also shots of the moving scenery shot from the front window of the train. We also see shots of Besses o' th' Barn train station. We see a track maintenance machine in operation. There are shots of a LNER steam train. The film ends with views of the British Transport Museum and of steam trains in sidings.
