Description

A film about the history of the Bridgewater Canal, commissioned by Francis Edgerton, owner of the Delph mine in Worsley, who wanted to link his mine with Manchester. There are shots of the canal today, and archive pictures and photographs of the canal's former activities. Barges are shown, as well as local houses and anglers on the canalside, and there is discussion of the canal's distinctive orange colour (caused by iron salts) and polluted nature.F
