Description |
An interview with an elderly couple, strike supporters at the miners’ rally in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. One recalls occasions in earlier decades when the town lent its support to labour disputes, for example the Harworth Colliery disturbances of 1936-7. Her husband recalls the occasion on which A. J. Cook, General Secretary of the Miners’ Federation of Great Britain, came to speak during the 1926 General Strike. Both praise the widespread support the miners are receiving from across the labour movement, and single out for praise the women’s groups and younger participants. The film finishes with brief shots of a colliery while an official from the National Coal Board questions the cameraman over his right to be there |
