Description |
A picket outside the Daily Mail Offices on Deansgate in Manchester of about 30 women, mainly Asian, in response to an article about arranged marriages. Shamsa Butt talks about the purpose of the picket, organised by Manchester Immigration Wives' and Fiances' Campaign, to help women bring their husbands to this country. The women wait to enter the Daily Mail building to try and see the editor. One of the women talks about her failed attempts to get her fiance into England because immigration officers considered the marriage was only a pretext for her fiance to come to UK. A number of women are interviewed about their situations and how the newspaper is misrepresenting their situation. The newspaper alleges that they are being sold to the highest bidder as a way for men to come into UK. |
