Film of the annual Manchester Martyrs march to commemorate the execution in Salford Gaol of William Philip Allen, Michael Larkin, and Michael O'Brien in 1867. In the course of freeing fellow Fenians from a police van a policeman was killed. The marchers congregate at Longsight Market and police liaise with organisers as the preparations take place - erecting banners, Manchester Martyrs Commemoration 1867-1989 banner, etc. March sets out along Dickenson Rd and into Wilmslow Rd, Rusholme with a very strong police presence. The Brendan Convery Flute Band plays Irish music and there are many banners. Some street scuffles with right-wing opponents as the march progresses.
