Description |
WFA's contribution to Red Zone, a co-production between five film-making groups in Belgium, Italy, Germany, France and Britain, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of International May Day by reflecting, analysing and expressing past and present struggles in each of the five countries through a series of five chapters. Focusses on the people and activities at Kirkby Unemployed Centre, independently run and managed by the unemployed workers themselves. Activists from the Centre - Tony Boyle, May Stone, Jimmy Stone, Dot, Maureen and many others - speak about the history of employment and unemployment in this area of Merseyside and the activities the Centre has been engaged in to combat the damaging effect the booms and busts of capitalism have inflicted upon the community. Eddie Frow from the Working Class Movement Library, Salford speaks about the hunger marches of the 1930s in this area. |
