Description |
In 1966 after nearly 30 years' service councillor Charles B Hopkinson retires from the council with scenes of his retirement party at the local Conservative club. We also see the councillor on the close that bears his name and out and about in Saddleworth speaking with his friends. The 1965 Whit walk begins with the Saddleworth church marching with bannners on the way to Uppermill, where a religious service is held on a playing field. After parading back to their church the group have children's races and the men play football. Another Whit walk in 1966 with children carrying baskets of flowers before congregating with other churches for a religious service. After the service the children race against each other and play cricket. |
