The opening ceremony is attended by various civic dignitaries - William M. Shepherd MP installs Beryl Flint as Miss Wythenshawe. The Lord Mayor of Manchester Miss Mary Kingsmill-Jones attends a religious ceremony the following day. A clergyman is seen preaching from an open topped lorry. A wide variety of other events are featured briefly - children are seen dancing, racing and boxing, a comedian (?) performs in a marquee and the AEI Symphony Orchestra play in a works canteen.
