Description

Filmed on the opening day of the Saddleworth Arts Festival, Saturday 22nd May 1971. It begins with a brass band playing in Uppermill followed by a Rush cart being pulled through the streets on a two mile journey to the King George V playing fields with a man sat atop the tower of rushes. Manchester's Lord Mayor, Lord and Lady Rose and the Duke and Duchess of Westminster arrive and officially open the festival at the Civic Hall. At the playing fields we see the Rush cart arrive then we take a brief tour of the 'Saddleworth at Work' exhibition. Finally we see children's funfair rides, a tug of war between rival pubs and dancing from the Manchester Morris Men.
