Description |
Film covering different aspects of the work and activities of the public library service in Burnley. After opening shots of library committee members studying a map in a committee room, a town council meeting is addressed by the mayor and the library chairman. Members of the public use facilities at Burnley central library including the reading and magazine rooms, a display of maps and the music and reference libraries. Staff undertake tasks such as shelving and withdrawing books, and preparing, sorting and cataloguing stock. Scenes of general activity at Marshall and Rosegrove libraries are followed by the opening of the new Burnley Wood Branch library, attended by the mayor. Speakers address an audience at the inauguration of the Gramaphone Record Library, before the film ends with shots of an art exhibition. |
