Description

Moss family visits to Israel in the late 1940s and the mid 1960s.

Reel 1
William Moss, family and friends on a 1949-50 visit to Israel. The reel begins with the Weiser family on a hotel balcony and shots of local women collecting water from a well, then carrying containers along on their heads. Arab peoples are seen on the streets of Nazareth. Footage includes a road trip around Upper Galilee and the Huleh Valley. Various sequences show members of a religious kibbutz in the grounds of the settlement and while having a meal. William Moss is seen riding on the back of a camel and family friends, including Lucy and Harry Weiser pose for the camera. There are brief shots of Tel Aviv sea front and a panoramic view of Haifa Bay. Concludes with shots of a desert landscape, cloud formations and a sunset seen from the window of an aircraft.

Reel 2
A mixed compilation showing visits to Israel in 1949-50 and the mid 1960s. Shots include an aeroplane taking off at Manchester Airport then arriving in Amsterdam, with air views of landscapes below. Men are seen snorkelling in the Bay of Haifa. Street scenes along Allenby Street in Tel Aviv and people sunbathing on sea front. A young girl (possibly Amira Weiser) wears a head-dress dances in front of the camera on a balcony and is later seen playing with other family members on the beach and swimming in the sea. There is a sequence showing building construction at the Rebecca Sieff WIZO Centre for the Family (Jerusalem Baby Home). Concludes with a visit to Caesarea and the Dead Sea during the mid 1960s, with some brief shots of an Italian holiday in Rome showing Piazza del Popolo, St Peter's Square and the Roman Forum.

Reel 3
1960s footage of a Moss family holiday with showing visits to Jerusalem and the Old City and beach scenes at Herzliya and Haifa. Family members are seen diving into a hotel pool, swimming in the sea and posing for the camera. Shots include trips to king Solomon's Mines, the Gesher Haviz Kibbutz Guest House and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
