Description |
A short campaigning film tackling the issue of social exclusion for teenagers undergoing cancer treatment. The 'Christie Crew' are a group of former patients at the Young Oncology Unit at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, a specialist unit for teenagers and young adults with cancer. Here, lead nurse Sam Smith and activities co-ordinator Lorraine Case explain how the Young Oncology Unit was developed, and members of the Christie Crew talk about their ID card scheme to enable young people undergoing treatment to enjoy an active social life in pubs, bars, and clubs. Security staff discuss the issue of dress code in night-time venues, local MP John Leech lends his support to the campaign, and the manager of Manchester bar Norwegian Blue describes how he became involved with the access scheme for the young patients. |
