Description

Fictional story about two male gas engineers who are called out to a woman's flat to fix her faulty cooker. After the woman pops out, one of the men unwittingly dislodges a gas pipe trying to move the cooker by himself, whilst his idle partner fills out a betting form in the living room. The working engineer joins his colleague for a sit down until they both smell gas, returning to the kitchen to repair the leak. However, the woman's pet bird (in a cage next to the cooker) is found dead. Frantically, they tape the bird on to its perch before the woman returns. She discovers the pet with a scream, telling the men that "it died last night".
