Description

A performance of the Transylvanian [Romania] folk song 'En vagyok az, aki nemja...', [I am the one who is not good...] as part of the Global Folk Instruments Heritage Project and performed by the Manchester Instrumental Roots Orchestra [MIRO]. The orchestra consists of Hannah McCabe on clarinet, Micheal Cretu on double bass and IIdiko Csige on vocals and the utogardon which resembles a cello worn on a strap on the torso with the strings beaten with a rod and plucked to create a percussive sound. After the song the singer Iidiko Csige gives a brief history of her musical /academic life, a demonstration of how to play the utogardon and its history as well as telling the story behind the song.
