Description |
Making snuff at the Gawith Hoggarth company in Kendal. At Helsington Mill, tobacco are unloaded and dried. Different grinding processes are shown; wet grinding using single and three pestle and mortar mills, and dry grinding using a ball mill. The snuff is sieved and packed before the film cuts to premises in Lowther Street where essences are added, and the product is sieved again. Weighing and packing processes are shown. The film ends with shots of the company director enjoying snuff in his office and a display of ornate snuff boxes. |
