Description |
A film celebrating 100 years of Burnley begins with a look at the town, it's industries, both old and new, it's schools and hospitals. Next we have the old bus station and market hall followed by Burnley's recreational facilities and parks. In the second half of this film we have the actual centenary celebrations beginning with the crowning of the Centenary Queen, with Jimmy Savile amongst the judges, then we have scenes from Mayor's Sunday, a procession through the town to the parish church. After a theatrical production in Townley Park and the unveiling of the Centenary Fountain we have the carnival parade and display teams at the show ground. Various exhibitions are held during the year, these include the police, a flower show and in the library an art exhibition. The film ends with the Centenary Civic Ball at the New Empress Ballroom. |
