Description

Scientific film from the 1970s which shows how medical operating teams shed skin scales and bacteria into the air during surgery and how this infection hazard can be controlled through the re-designing of garments. The staff of Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow are seen demonstrating the techniques used to assess fabrics for operating room use, whilst a voice over explains what they are doing. Time-lapse and Schlieren photography are used throughout to illustrate the dangers of airborne cross-infection in operating thatres.
