Description |
A look at the effects of a boom in city centre living on the independent traders in Manchester's Northern Quarter, an area regarded as the creative heart of the city, with its record labels, clothes shops, and music venues. These arts and music related industries provide two of Manchester’s main exports – ‘music and streetstyle fashion’. But the Northern Quarter is affected by the increased popularity of city centre living amongst young urban professionals. Though residential development brings much needed investment, how can an area in need of physical regeneration retain its character and freedom by not pricing out small creative concerns and businesses? Club promoter Luke Unabomber and Jeni Chan from the Oldham Street bar ‘Night and Day’ are amongst those discussing the issue. |
