Description

A procession passes through a cemetery - the women carry bouquets and flowered poles; they continue through Neston town centre watched by crowds of onlookers; at the fair - shots of various rides.
(Neston Female Friendly society was established in 1814 to provide financial assistance to honorary members in time of sickness, pregnancy or death. On the afternoon of the first Thursday in June, members would gather to take their annual walk. The event always had an exciting air of pageantry, with each member carefully planning her outfit and choosing which flowers and ribbons she was going to use to decorate the white staff she carried.)

This film, along with thousands of others from across the country, can also be viewed online as part of BFI: Britain on Film - player.bfi.org.uk/britain-on-film/
