Description

Film describing the provision of maternity care in the Leigh area. There are scenes shot at 'The Firs', a maternity home run by Matron Storey, who is seen at her bureau and with a child. There are then shots of the various areas within Leigh, with shots of the maternity clinic building in each area, and its presiding midwife. A dramatised sequence shows a husband running from his house to the phone box to call out a midwife, who cycles in to help. There are then sequences of tests and safety procedures in the maternity home.
