Description

Farming and family scenes from the Heyes family of Mossborough Hall Farm in Rainford, St. Helens. The film opens in 1977 with shots of a fire in Simonswood Moss, the lady filming the fire talks about the efforts to extinguish it. We then see a business meeting. Mr Heyes shows a distributor examples of his packaged vegetables, and they discuss where demand for these goods would be. James Heyes lands back in the UK. He is filmed arriving at Manchester Airport and then back home he discusses his trip to Melbourne and Bangkok for the camera. In 1978 a man sits by 'The White Man' in Knowsley Park, he talks about the weather and points out the cars in the distance queueing to get into Knowsley Safari Park, and the 'Great Lake'. William Heyes is then filmed in Knowsley Deer Park with his cattle which are grazing there. This is followed by scenes of potato harvesting. We then see a family holiday to Mauritius. We see the family on the beach and attempting to catch fish. Local children sing for the camera and they film a local man descaling a fish. The family go to see giant tortoises. Back home they show their holiday photos to other family members. On 12 May 1980 we see Bill Langton and Tony Watkins harvesting vegetables, and on 15 May 1980 we see the fields being watered due to the recent spell of dry weather. On 8 June 1980 we see a lorry packed with Knowsley Salads which are ready to by transported to Covent Gardens by Transfleet Wagons. The film ends with scenes from 31 August 1980 of a family picnic in the back garden, two of the children present introduce themselves as Nicholas Preston and Victoria Hudson.
