Description

The crowning of the Festival Queen at Thompson Park on 2nd June 1951 by the mayor of Burnley, followed by a series of local historical projects and re-enactments. The crowning of Mrs Joyce Riley as festival queen is followed by speeches and celebratory folk dancing. There follows footage of a history project at Towneley Hall undertaken by pupils at the High School for girls, depicting the upstairs / downstairs life of an Elizabethan household. Finally, 'A Burnley Pageant' provides a series of re-enacted scenes from local history, from 'Edward II at Ightenhill' to 'Victorian Burnley'.
