Description

An educational film produced by Oldham Leisure Services describing the changes that the Shaw and Crompton area has undergone over the last century. Taking each of several aspects in turn - industry, local government, schools, churches, transport, shopping and leisure - and using both specially shot and archive footage (and stills), the film discusses the town's development. There is footage of various manufacturing processes in action, shots of the town's high street, schools and churches, and views of the town from above. There is also footage of mills being demolished, of local parks and libraries, and of the community centre.
