Description

This film is in two parts, the first part of the film relates to the making of the play, 'Holly from the Bongs'. There is an interview with Alan Garner the author of the play. He talks extensively about writing the play and about how his upbringing and education influenced him. We also hear from Peter Bayliss. He is the drama teacher at Manchester Grammar School and also the director of the play. He talks about directing, his methods, various collaborations in set, music and costume design and auditions at Manchester High School for Girls and Withington High School. We see scenes from the rehearsals and then we hear again from Alan Garner, this time he talks about his hopes that the proceeds from the play can be used to help underprivileged students to attend Manchester Grammar School. In the second part of the film we see the full performance of 'Holly from the Bongs' at Manchester Grammar School.
