Description |
The manufacture of plate glass. The raw materials are loaded into a revolving hopper and mixed; this powder is loaded into a clay pot and placed in a furnace to fuse it. Next, the clay pot is positioned over the rolling machine and the molten glass is poured in. It then flows down onto a casting table, which moves over to an annealing kiln; after annealing the glass is cut into more manageable pieces and trimmed, ground and polished; long sequences of grinding and polishing machines in action. The large plates of glass are checked for faults, and marked for cutting. Close shot of a piece of glass having its edges nipped off until the circular outline marked on it is reached. Plates seen being packed in crates. Shots of lorries and a train taking the glass out from the City Road works. |
