Description |
There are two parts to this film. The first part is a black and white film featuring a day in the life of Manchester Grammar School. The film begins with the caretaker opening the school gates. We see the staff and students arriving, the teachers head to the Masters' Common Room where we see them sat in comfy chairs reading newspapers. We see the boys at morning assembly and Jewish prayers taking place in Sieff Theatre. We see the boys in class, the lessons we see include French, woodwork, metalwork, biology, music, chemistry, physics, pottery and P.E. We see the boys having a swimming lesson, which they do in the nude. We also see them studying in the library and receiving their milk at break time. We see them buying snacks from the tuck shop and later eating a hot meal at lunch time. The film concludes with scenes of some of the boys leaving at home time, and some of the boys staying on to take part in various after school activates including cricket, chess and playing in the school orchestra. The caretaker closes the gates and we see the cleaner at work. The second part of the film is a colour film showing the boys on a camping trip in what appears to be the Lake District. The boys are seen at camp enjoying refreshments, preparing, cooking and distributing food and playing cricket. We see them out walking and there are shots of the campsite and scenery. |
