Description |
Rachel Wallace from the North West Arts Board interviews three prominent figures about the challenges to society caused by an ageing population. She speaks to Will Hutton, at this time the editor-in-chief of the Observer, Pauline Tambling from the Arts Council, and Fiona Chesterton from the BBC. Between them, they look at the effects on the economy, the risks of poverty in retirement, and the need to change public attitudes to older workers, so those of middle age and older are no longer regarded as disposable. Art and culture also come in for scrutiny, with an emphasis on the need for lifelong learning where new technology can be beneficial, and the importance of making arts provision and access wholly inclusive to all. |
