Description

The film opens with views of Rainow Waterfall in the spring, and then views of Rainow and the park, and Rainow Village and Mellors Pool. We see sheep and lambs and a horse and foal in the fields. We then see the Wood Family and their pet jackdaws. There are shots of Marjorie Blower with Smokey the cat, and we see hens over the hedgerow. There are hay-making scenes with Jeff Cooper and others in a field, he has a horse drawn trailer loaded with hay and a lady rides on top of it. There are then shots of a man sawing through wood. We see Auntie Marie mending a deck chair and Marjorie Blower sat in a deck chair modelling a big frilly skirt for the camera. There follow scenes from a garden party at the vicarage. We see people seated round wooden tables playing bingo, and people play other games. People sit at tables drinking tea and eating cakes, and we see ladies serving the tea and cakes from a stall. Children play with balls, and there are shots of Stephen Plant with his children. We also see John Medley selling sticks. There are shots of swans on Clough Pool, and then we see scenes from the Bollington Carnival. There is a brass band and dance troupes, people in fancy dress and people collecting money for the carnival. There are civic dignitaries watching the procession and we later see them at the showground where the carnival queen is crowned in a ceremony.
